The Event Derby® 2012
Frequently Asked Questions

What is a complete entry?
• Filled out entry form
• USEA release
• Venue release
• Payment made payable to The Event Derby

If I pay stabling do I need to pay the Grounds Fee?
Yes the Grounds fee is in addition to the stabling fee.

What is the difference between the classes in the same level (i.e.: Beginner Novice and Open
Beginner Novice)?

The major difference between classes in the same division/level is the Dressage Test. In all classes
except Intro Beginner Novice the Dressage test is Test A for first class listed for that division
(Beginner Novice Test A for class 4 Beginner Novice) and Dressage Test B for the second class (or
Open class) in the same division (Beginner Novice Test B for class 5 Open Beginner Novice). The
other slight difference is though the jumping phase course is exactly the same, the MPM (meters
per minute) is slightly faster for the Open division.

When do I need to pay the drug fee?
In California, the CA drug fee of $5 has to be paid anytime more than $4.99 is charged to
participate in a competition class. Therefore, if you compete in any class on Sunday, you must pay
the $5 CA drug fee. The drug fee is not applicable to clinics.

Do I need to be a USEA member to compete at The Event Derby®?
No. The Event Derby ® is a sponsored activity of the USEA however you do not need to be a USEA
member to participate.

When will ride times be posted?
Ride times will be posted at The Event Derby® website www.theeventderby.com by Thursday
evening prior to the date of the competition. Please be advised that these times are tentative and
subject to change.

What time will I ride?
Though you will not know the tentative time you will ride until closer to the date of the
competition, you can have an idea based upon the level you are riding. The Event Derby starts
off with the Intro Beginner Novice division at 8am (occasionally if the show is large we may
have to start earlier) with their dressage rides and continues with a lunch break all the way up
to Advanced. For example: If you are riding Novice, plan on riding your dressage test between
11am-1pm and jumping between 12pm-2pm.

How do I get into the clinics?
Get your entry in early is the best advice. Entries open six weeks prior to the Tuesday prior
to The Event Derby ® competition that you are entering. These dates are posted on The Event
Derby® website www.theeventderby.com . The jumping clinics, especially the Beginner Novice
and Novice levels, fill up fast. Clinics are filled on a first come (postmark of a complete entry)
first serve basis with priority given to those also entered in The Event Derby ® on Sunday.
Unfortunately, at times we will be unable to accommodate everybody. When this happens you
will be refunded the amount of the clinic and the applicable grounds fee.
